Sesame Grilled Asparagus Recipe
GF Recipe Summary
Gluten-Free Sesame Grilled Asparagus: Reminiscent of an Asian type dish, this simple to make sesame asparagus is a healthy and tasty meal accent.
A combination of Gluten-Free Tamari (i.e., wheat-free soy sauce) and Sesame Seeds are used to add a little extra flavor and style to grilled asparagus. This dish takes only a few minutes to prepare on the stovetop, and requires no strict measuring of ingredients. The result is an Asparagus dish with a bit of an Asian-inspired flare. It is fine served as a main course for vegetable lovers, or as a side dish.

Asparagus Spears (Fresh or Frozen) Gluten-Free Low Sodium Tamari (Wheat-Free Soy Sauce) Sesame Seeds
Drizzle some Tamari over top of Asparagus, somewhat evenly distributing over exposed surfaces. You will not need to completely soak the spears, you just want a reasonable amount for accent-flavor. Next, sprinkle sesame seeds over the asparagus as you see fit.
Use a fork or other device to rotate the spears once or twice as they cook through. Total cook time should only be a few minutes (perhaps 5-8) depending on if fresh or frozen spears are used, and how well-cooked you prefer your asparagus. Take care as not to burn them - reduce heat and increase grilling time as needed.
Serve when done grilling. Final product should look something like what is pictured here.

(Mike) I use a cast-iron flat griddle to grill my asparagus, and I prefer San-J brand Organic Wheat-Free Low-Sodium Tamari (Certified Gluten-Free at time of writing). I also try to make sure the sesame seeds I use are not preserved with Sulfites. I also wrote this blog entry about why I prefer cast iron for my gluten-free baking.
